Chris Paterson has been named the

Chris Paterson has been named the field manager for the White Sands Pupfish for the 2012 season. Chris won manager of the year in the Pecos League for 2011 in Roswell and won the regular season title. He also assembled a team that beat the El Paso Diablos. He is very familiar with Alamogordo as he played around 10 games there against the Pupfish and was on the other side of the Roswell/White Sands rivalry. In Roswell, Chris signed arguably the leagues best players in the off season in Brian Fowler, Clifton Thomas, Brian Ramirez and Troy Frazier. Many Roswell Fans are very disapointed as they wanted Chris back to defend his championship. "I am looking for something new, I will be starting over in the 2012 season, there will be a couple of players I will bring down from Roswell with me, but otherwise I will start over. I am very happy with the season in Roswell and hope to continue success in White Sands. I realize the Pecos League will be much more difficult this year, #1 no travel team and six solid teams, I miss those free wins against Carlsbad #2 Other teams from higher leagues will be taking our players sooner and earlier due to the high amount of players we sent off last year." Chris will managing in the Arizona Winter League and the Pecos Spring League he is currently an associate scout for the Tampa Bay Rays and runs their California Scout Team

"Chris wanted a to goto Santa Fe but Matt and Wally sold him on Alamogordo. The job Alamogordo did in the All-Star Game and with their Friday Night attendence was great. He received offers from other higher leagues to go as an assistant, but wanted to be head coach for another season. We have hundreds of coaches apply for this position, Chris was most logical choice. It speaks highly for Alamogordo"s committment to the Pupfish in the fact the a highly desired manager choose Alamogordo over both Roswell and Santa Fe." says Pecos League commisioner Andrew Dunn

In 2010 Chris served as field manager for the Desert Valley Mountain Lions of the Continental Baseball League where he finished with a 26-26 mark and was named CBL manager of the year in his first managerial stop. This was a huge accomplishment for a travel team. Paterson has also served as a manager and coach in the California Winter league the past two season reaching the championship game both times and also helping to sign and place dozens of players in professional baseball leagues. Prior to this season Paterson also served as the pitching coach for Pacifica College in Riverside California helping the team in its first year of play. Prior to his coaching career Chris grew up in San Bernardino, CA playing is high school baseball at Redlands East Valley where he was part of the first League championship team for the school. He then went on to play junior college baseball at Barstow Community College where he was all conference honorable mention as an outfield/ pitcher. He earned a scholarship to play division one college baseball at North Dakota State University in the Summit League. He finished his college career here as an outfielder and a pitcher handling the two-way role in both his seasons there. In his senior season Paterson threw a no hitter against perennial college baseball powerhouse Creighton University, earning him national honors and awards. He also would go on to have 15 innings of scoreless relief appearances in the same season. Paterson would go on to graduate with his Bachelors degree in Behavioral Studies from North Dakota State University before pursuing his professional career over seas. His travels would take him to Europe to play in France, Italy and Germany where he was the best pitcher in the country and also to Australia to play during the winter. Chris would then return back to the USA to start his Independent baseball career. In his Indy career Chris would earn all-star honors playing in the Continental baseball league for his 2.91 era and 8-0 record. Chris currently serves as an associate scout for the Tampa bay Rays and will assist with the scout team in Southern California. He is finishing up his Masters Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration form Concordia University Irvine in California. He currently resides in Yucaipa, CA.

The Ruidoso Osos Championship Missi

The Ruidoso Osos Championship Mission continued on Saturday Night. The Osos shutout the White Sands Pupfish 7-0 to complete a two game sweep in the best of three game series. Jason Hyland carried the Osos the entire series with a huge game winning hit in the 9th inning of Game 1. Jonathan Means hit a grand slam which broke the game completely open. Hyland went 4-4 with 3 rbi"s in the 2nd game. The Osos got another shutout from Chris Welborn which is his third of the season. In game 1 Mike Jackson Jr. pitched 8 innings to outlast the Pupfish. Andrew Plotkin came in for a save to hold off the Pupfish. The Pupfish never got started offensively. The Osos defense turned three double plays and was solid in both games. Ruidoso will await the winner of Alpine and Roswell tonight in Roswell. Should Alpine win the two teams will play a 5 game series with the first two games being in Ruidosos and the final three games being in Alpine beginning Tuesday.

August 12 2011 The Ruidoso Osos defeated the White Sands Pupfish 8-6 after collecting 16 hits and scoring in three separate innings. Ruidoso took a 1-0 lead in the first, broke the game open with five runs in the fourth and added two insurance runs in the ninth. White Sands answered with two runs in the third, two in the fourth and two in the eighth but could not complete the comeback.

Joel Carranza led the Osos with three hits, two doubles and two RBI. Jonathan Means and Sean Proni each added three hits, while Chris Juarez had two hits and an RBI. J. Ville reached base five times with two hits and three walks, and J. Hyland drove in two runs. Ruidoso finished with seven total RBI and left 11 runners on base.

Michael Hur paced White Sands with three hits, including a home run, and drove in all three of the Pupfishs runs. Chris De Biasi also recorded three hits, while Brandon Kendricks scored twice and added a hit. White Sands totaled nine hits and left eight runners on base.

Mike Jackson earned the win for Ruidoso after allowing seven hits and six runs, four earned, in eight innings while striking out eight. Andrew Plotkin worked a scoreless ninth to earn the save. Ryan Torrey took the loss for White Sands despite allowing only two runs in five innings; Chris Anklem surrendered six runs, five earned, in four innings.

August 10 2011 The White Sands Pupfish built an early lead and held off the Carlsbad Bats 13-11 at Griggs Park. White Sands scored twice in the first inning and erupted for six runs in the second to take control, then added one run in the third and two in the fourth for an 11-4 advantage. The Pupfish finished with 11 hits and six errors while Carlsbad collected 13 hits and committed two errors.

Michael Hur went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for White Sands. Tim Rotola scored twice and drove in three runs, while Ernie Munoz had two hits and Cody Collins added three hits. Robert Rodriguez also contributed a two-hit game with two RBI, and Brandon Kendricks drove in a run and scored once.

Carlsbad rallied late with four runs in the eighth and three in the ninth. Ryan Kaup led the Bats with four hits, an RBI and a walk, while James Mays scored three runs. David Holcombe went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI, and Greg Perret added two hits and a double.

Loren Lauver earned the win for White Sands after allowing six hits and four runs over five innings, with one earned run, three walks and eight strikeouts. Greg Denton followed with 1.2 scoreless innings, and Adam Osteen recorded the save with two-thirds of an inning and one strikeout. Carlsbad starter John Bonifacini took the loss after surrendering 11 runs, nine earned, on seven hits in four innings.

August 9 2011 The White Sands Pupfish rallied past the Carlsbad Bats 6-5 at Griggs Park. White Sands finished with 12 hits and no errors while Carlsbad collected seven hits and committed two errors.

White Sands scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead, but Carlsbad surged ahead with four runs in the seventh. The Pupfish answered with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to regain the lead and held Carlsbad scoreless over the final two innings.

Chris De Biasi led White Sands with three hits and an RBI, while Tim Rotola and Robert Rodriguez each had two hits and an RBI. Justin Smith added a hit and two RBI. For Carlsbad, Ryan Powell had two hits and three RBI, and David Holcombe went 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Jacob McBride earned the win after allowing two hits and no runs in 1.1 innings. Adam Osteen recorded the save with a scoreless ninth. Paul Jinkens worked six innings for White Sands, allowing three hits and one run while striking out five. Carlsbad starter Randy Waite took the loss after surrendering 12 hits and six runs in seven innings.

August 6 2011 The Roswell Invaders held off the White Sands Pupfish 9-8 in a back-and-forth game at Coca Cola Park. Roswell collected 10 hits and overcame White Sands� 14-hit attack to secure the victory, with Josh Grady earning the win and Jacob McBride taking the loss.

Roswell scored in the first and fourth innings before both teams broke through in the fifth. The Invaders scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-3 lead, but White Sands answered with three runs in the sixth to tie the game. Roswell moved back in front with two runs in the eighth, and each team scored once in the ninth as the Invaders preserved the one-run victory.

Adrian Martinez led Roswell with three hits, including a double and a home run, and drove in three runs. Brian Ramirez added two RBI, while Trivon Howard collected two hits, scored three runs and stole two bases. Joey Friedman and Kevin Hoef also drove in a run apiece for the Invaders.

White Sands received a standout performance from Jamaal Jackson, who went 3-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and four RBI. Brandon Kendricks had three hits, including a triple, and Ruben Sanchez added two hits and one RBI. White Sands starter Brandon Glazebrook allowed six runs, five earned, in four innings, while Roswell starter Reed Brown struck out eight in 5.1 innings. Grady worked one inning and struck out two for the win, and McBride allowed the deciding run in one-third of an inning.

Ruben Sanchez led the Pupfish offense with three hits and two RBI. Tim Rotola went 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and one RBI, while Cody Collins added two hits and two RBI. Las Cruces scored in six of the eight innings shown, including three runs in the seventh, and held White Sands scoreless until the Pupfish scored twice in the eighth. The Vaqueros finished with one error while White Sands committed one.

Juan F. Martinez went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs for Las Cruces. Clint Stroud added a solo home run and two RBI, while James Lilley also homered and drove in a run. Henry Fuentes collected three hits, including a double and two triples, and scored three times. Harry Williams Jr. and Dan Pembrooke each added two hits.

Josh Walker earned the win after allowing one hit and no runs over seven innings. He walked three and struck out eight. Thomas Romero pitched the eighth and allowed two runs on three hits with one walk.

White Sands took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, but Alpine answered with a run in the first and carried a 1-3 deficit into the seventh. Kyle Wells drove in two runs and Andrew Riddick added an RBI for the Cowboys. Tyler Hicks went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Wells had two hits and Nick Ochoa added a hit and a run.

Ruben Sanchez led White Sands with three hits in four at-bats and drove in a run. Tim Rotola and Brandon Kendricks each recorded two hits, and White Sands scored twice in the seventh, but the rally fell short. The Pupfish received an RBI from L. in the inning.

Scott Shimek earned the win after allowing three runs on nine hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 6.2 innings. Nick Ochoa led Alpine with three hits and two RBI. Kyle Wells went 1-for-5 with two RBI, Jason Simone drove in two runs, and David Valesente and Zach Welch each recorded two hits and an RBI. Tyler Hicks scored three runs and drew three walks, while Welch scored twice and stole a base.

Parker Talbert earned the win after allowing seven hits but no runs over five innings, striking out two and walking two. Jack Winters, Stephen Szkotak and Greg Bond completed the game for Alpine, with Szkotak credited for the save in the pitching statistics. Roswell broke open the game with an 11-run third inning after taking a 3-2 lead in the first. The Invaders added three runs in the seventh to finish the scoring. White Sands scored once in the fourth and three times in the sixth but could not overcome the deficit.

Clint Stottlemyre and M. Mooney each went 2-for-3 with three RBI for Roswell. Brycen Bell added two hits and four RBI, while Adrian Martinez had a double and three RBI. Matt Palko scored three runs, and Kevin Hoef drove in two runs.

Tim Rotola led White Sands with two hits and two RBIs. Chris Nyman went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Ryan Pembroke and Chris De Biasi each scored once and De Biasi added two hits. The box score also credited K. Peterson with a home run and an RBI.

Roswell�s Clifton Thomas had four hits in five at-bats, including three doubles, and drove in the Invaders� first run. Joey Friedman added two hits and scored Roswell�s other run.

Chris De Biasi went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs for the Pupfish, including a home run. Ruben Sanchez added two hits and four RBIs, while Justin Smith scored three runs and drove in two. Jerome McCollum also homered, scored three times and drove in one run, and Cody Collins went 2-for-5 with a double and a triple.

He is the first player in the brief history of the Pecos League to be signed by an affliated team. The Pecos League was contacted by the Diamondbacks Wednesday Morning and two hours later had a deal to send Osteen to Scottsdale, Arizona to begin working out in Diamondbacks Camp. "This is good" says Keith Essary who has suddenly become a hot spot for higher level teams to sign players. Adam was 1-2 witha 6.91 ERA in 15 games for the Pupfish. "This is another step forward for the Pecos League. I am glad for Adam." says Andrew Dunn of the Pecos League.

White Sands scored in the first, fourth and seventh innings before adding a run in the 12th and the decisive run in the 13th. Alpine answered with single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings and tied the game in the 12th, but could not produce a response in the final frame.

Ernie Munoz, Jamaal Jackson and Chris Nyman each collected three hits for White Sands. Justin Smith scored once and drove in a run, while Nyman also recorded an RBI. Alpine�s Austin Newell had two hits and two RBIs, and James Kono added two hits and an RBI.

White Sands used four pitchers, with Ryan DeLaughter earning the win after allowing one run on one hit in one inning. Tim Aucoin worked a scoreless ninth inning for the save. The White Sands Pupfish and the Pec

The White Sands Pupfish and the Pecos League would like to release the following statement regarding the incident between the Pupfish and a local Alamogordo Softball Team on 6/13/2011. According to Alamogordo police report the softball team challanged the Pupfish to a fight in the parking lot and he also challanged the Pupfish to a $1,000 softball game in a loser leaves town match. A fight broke out inside the bar area and was taken outside in the parking lot. Several of the Softball players were injured, no Pupfish players were injured.

The Pupfish and the softball team were running into each other at Applebee"s which is one of the only restaurants open after hours. Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn met with Applebee"s manager Traci Cullers on 6/20/2011 to confirm the team was no longer welcome. Traci Cullers said "The Pupfish and the softball team are welcome at Applebee"s. We do not block them or prevent them from coming back." Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn says "We cannot have incidents like this happening. I have investigated the incident and met with Traci. At first we were going to ban the Pupfish from going to Applebee"s but with cooperation of Traci and other restaurants in Alamogordo open after 10PM, we will allow players to re-enter Applebee"s." We ask the citizens of Alamogordo to read the police report before making any judgements about the team.

"Alex had offers from 5 teams" said Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn. 3 of the teams were in the American Association, 1 team in Frontier League and the San Angelo Colts. San Angelo has a stable staff and a history of taking players from the Pecos League (Gorman Romero, Eddie Brown) and a quality coaching staff in Doc Edwards/Bobby Brown. Brown managed Las Cruces in 2010 and is constantly looking for upgrades to the San Angelo team, Doc Edwards has a legency as a manager 2nd to none in independent baseball and will provide a great opportunity for Alex to progess back into affliated ball. The Pecos League is now fielding calls on a daily basis from higher budget independent teams.

White Sands scored four times in the first inning and added the eventual winning run in the seventh. Ruidoso scored once in the first second sixth and ninth innings but could not complete the comeback.

Jamaal Jackson drove in two runs for the Pupfish, while Andrew Riddick contributed an RBI and three walks. Ernie Munoz had two hits and scored once, and Chris Nyman added a hit and an RBI. White Sands finished with six hits and one error.

Kolby Peterson earned the win after allowing three runs two earned on eight hits in eight innings. He walked none and struck out four. Jack Winters surrendered one run on two hits in the ninth but secured the save.

Ruidoso collected 10 hits in the loss. Chris Davis led the Osos with three hits and an RBI, Eddie Browne had two hits, and David Holcombe hit a home run and drove in a run. Mike Jackson took the loss after allowing four runs three earned on five hits in five innings, with five walks and four strikeouts.

May 18 2011 The White Sands Pupfish defeated the Ruidoso Osos 11-6 at Griggs Park. White Sands collected 15 hits and scored in five innings while Ruidoso finished with 11 hits. The Pupfish took a 3-2 lead in the first inning and added single runs in the fourth and sixth before breaking the game open with six runs in the eighth. Ruidoso scored twice in the eighth and once in the ninth but could not complete the comeback.

Ernie Munoz led White Sands with four hits in five at-bats including a double and scored twice. Jerome McCollum went 3-for-5 with two doubles three RBIs and a run. Lammar Guy Andrew Riddick Jamaal Jackson and Michael Hur each added two hits. Ruidoso"s Case Rigby went 3-for-5 with an RBI while Drew Peterson Jerome Dunning and Chris Juarez had two hits apiece. Juarez hit a home run and drove in two runs and Dunning added two RBIs.

Steven Lemmon earned the win for White Sands after allowing two runs on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in two innings. Chris Kirk started and worked six innings allowing seven hits three runs two earned runs and one walk while striking out three. Ruidoso starter Erick Campos allowed eight hits and four earned runs in five innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Josue Iniguez struck out four in two scoreless innings for Ruidoso before White Sands scored twice off Leo Madrid and four runs off Chris Welborn in the late innings.

May 14 2011 The Las Cruces Vaqueros defeated the White Sands Pupfish 12-5 after breaking open a scoreless game with an eight-run fourth inning at Apodaca Park. Las Cruces added one run in the sixth and three in the seventh, while White Sands scored once in the fourth, twice in the sixth and twice in the eighth. Herbert Lara led the Vaqueros with two hits and three runs scored, while Steve Detweiler collected two hits and drove in four runs. Bo Bell added two RBIs, and Harry Williams Jr. contributed two hits and two RBIs. Luis Carreras also drove in two runs and scored twice for Las Cruces, which finished with 11 hits. Justin Smith paced White Sands with two hits and two RBIs. Luke Williford had two hits and an RBI, while Ernie Munoz scored twice. The Pupfish totaled eight hits and four errors in the loss. Carreras earned the win after allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three. Mike Duckworth completed the game with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. Brandin Muniz took the loss for White Sands after surrendering seven runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings.

The Las Cruces Vaqueros got their 2nd victory of the 2011 season both in walk off fashion against the White Sands Pupfish. Steven "Caveman" Lemmon was brought into the 9th inning to try and hold a 8-8 tie. The Vaqueros scored in the bottom of the 9th to win the game, Andy Watson started for Las Cruces pitching 5 innings allowing 6 runs. The two teams will play the final game of the series Saturday Night in Las Cruces at 7:00 PM

The Las Cruces defeated the White Sands Pupfish 10-9 in 10 innings in a back and forth game at Apodoca Park. The Pupfish fought hard but fell short in extra innings. Raphael Anzola was the winning pitcher for the Vaqueros pitching the 10th inning. Herbert Lada lead the way for the Vaqueros with 3 runs and 3 stolen bases. The Fish nets are up in the desert

The Fish nets are up in the desert and the White Sands Pupfish report to Alamogordo for Spring Training May 4, 2011. Alamogordo"s Griggs Park in the center location of the Pecos League, despite being isloated in the middle of the New Mexico Desert, the Pupfish have the best travel schedule in the league with fewest nights away from home. The Pupfish ballpark will be the most unique ballpark in the Pecos League with Fish Nets on both foul lines 100 feet off of the foul line and 40 feet high. These nets will be in play. The Pupfish are lead by manager Keith Essary who managed the Coastal Kingfish in 2009. Essary will be looking to silence critics that he can"t win. Keith is bringing in an exciting team that he thinks will do well in altitude. The fans in Alamogordo can"t wait for Spring Training to get start, opposing pitchers will wish they never saw Griggs Park with 30-50 mph constant winds blowing out to left field and 4600 feet altitude could cause for some high scoring games.
