Chris Paterson has been named the

Chris Paterson has been named the field manager for the White Sands Pupfish for the 2012 season. Chris won manager of the year in the Pecos League for 2011 in Roswell and won the regular season title. He also assembled a team that beat the El Paso Diablos. He is very familiar with Alamogordo as he played around 10 games there against the Pupfish and was on the other side of the Roswell/White Sands rivalry. In Roswell, Chris signed arguably the leagues best players in the off season in Brian Fowler, Clifton Thomas, Brian Ramirez and Troy Frazier. Many Roswell Fans are very disapointed as they wanted Chris back to defend his championship. "I am looking for something new, I will be starting over in the 2012 season, there will be a couple of players I will bring down from Roswell with me, but otherwise I will start over. I am very happy with the season in Roswell and hope to continue success in White Sands. I realize the Pecos League will be much more difficult this year, #1 no travel team and six solid teams, I miss those free wins against Carlsbad #2 Other teams from higher leagues will be taking our players sooner and earlier due to the high amount of players we sent off last year." Chris will managing in the Arizona Winter League and the Pecos Spring League he is currently an associate scout for the Tampa Bay Rays and runs their California Scout Team

"Chris wanted a to goto Santa Fe but Matt and Wally sold him on Alamogordo. The job Alamogordo did in the All-Star Game and with their Friday Night attendence was great. He received offers from other higher leagues to go as an assistant, but wanted to be head coach for another season. We have hundreds of coaches apply for this position, Chris was most logical choice. It speaks highly for Alamogordo"s committment to the Pupfish in the fact the a highly desired manager choose Alamogordo over both Roswell and Santa Fe." says Pecos League commisioner Andrew Dunn

In 2010 Chris served as field manager for the Desert Valley Mountain Lions of the Continental Baseball League where he finished with a 26-26 mark and was named CBL manager of the year in his first managerial stop. This was a huge accomplishment for a travel team. Paterson has also served as a manager and coach in the California Winter league the past two season reaching the championship game both times and also helping to sign and place dozens of players in professional baseball leagues. Prior to this season Paterson also served as the pitching coach for Pacifica College in Riverside California helping the team in its first year of play. Prior to his coaching career Chris grew up in San Bernardino, CA playing is high school baseball at Redlands East Valley where he was part of the first League championship team for the school. He then went on to play junior college baseball at Barstow Community College where he was all conference honorable mention as an outfield/ pitcher. He earned a scholarship to play division one college baseball at North Dakota State University in the Summit League. He finished his college career here as an outfielder and a pitcher handling the two-way role in both his seasons there. In his senior season Paterson threw a no hitter against perennial college baseball powerhouse Creighton University, earning him national honors and awards. He also would go on to have 15 innings of scoreless relief appearances in the same season. Paterson would go on to graduate with his Bachelors degree in Behavioral Studies from North Dakota State University before pursuing his professional career over seas. His travels would take him to Europe to play in France, Italy and Germany where he was the best pitcher in the country and also to Australia to play during the winter. Chris would then return back to the USA to start his Independent baseball career. In his Indy career Chris would earn all-star honors playing in the Continental baseball league for his 2.91 era and 8-0 record. Chris currently serves as an associate scout for the Tampa bay Rays and will assist with the scout team in Southern California. He is finishing up his Masters Degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration form Concordia University Irvine in California. He currently resides in Yucaipa, CA.

The Ruidoso Osos Championship Missi

The Ruidoso Osos Championship Mission continued on Saturday Night. The Osos shutout the White Sands Pupfish 7-0 to complete a two game sweep in the best of three game series. Jason Hyland carried the Osos the entire series with a huge game winning hit in the 9th inning of Game 1. Jonathan Means hit a grand slam which broke the game completely open. Hyland went 4-4 with 3 rbi"s in the 2nd game. The Osos got another shutout from Chris Welborn which is his third of the season. In game 1 Mike Jackson Jr. pitched 8 innings to outlast the Pupfish. Andrew Plotkin came in for a save to hold off the Pupfish. The Pupfish never got started offensively. The Osos defense turned three double plays and was solid in both games. Ruidoso will await the winner of Alpine and Roswell tonight in Roswell. Should Alpine win the two teams will play a 5 game series with the first two games being in Ruidosos and the final three games being in Alpine beginning Tuesday.

Adam Osteen was signed by the Arizo

Adam Osteen was signed by the Arizona Diamondbacks today. He was scouted at the leagues all star game with his fastball ranging from 93-96. He is the first player in the brief history of the Pecos League to be signed by an affliated team. The Pecos League was contacted by the Diamondbacks Wednesday Morning and two hours later had a deal to send Osteen to Scottsdale, Arizona to begin working out in Diamondbacks Camp. "This is good" says Keith Essary who has suddenly become a hot spot for higher level teams to sign players. Adam was 1-2 witha 6.91 ERA in 15 games for the Pupfish. "This is another step forward for the Pecos League. I am glad for Adam." says Andrew Dunn of the Pecos League.

The White Sands Pupfish and the Pecos League would like to release the following statement regarding the incident between the Pupfish and a local Alamogordo Softball Team on 6/13/2011. According to Alamogordo police report the softball team challanged the Pupfish to a fight in the parking lot and he also challanged the Pupfish to a $1,000 softball game in a loser leaves town match. A fight broke out inside the bar area and was taken outside in the parking lot. Several of the Softball players were injured, no Pupfish players were injured.

The Pupfish and the softball team were running into each other at Applebee"s which is one of the only restaurants open after hours. Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn met with Applebee"s manager Traci Cullers on 6/20/2011 to confirm the team was no longer welcome. Traci Cullers said "The Pupfish and the softball team are welcome at Applebee"s. We do not block them or prevent them from coming back." Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn says "We cannot have incidents like this happening. I have investigated the incident and met with Traci. At first we were going to ban the Pupfish from going to Applebee"s but with cooperation of Traci and other restaurants in Alamogordo open after 10PM, we will allow players to re-enter Applebee"s." We ask the citizens of Alamogordo to read the police report before making any judgements about the team.

Alex Castillos headed to San Angelo Colts of North American League. Alex pitched three times for White Sands and he has promoted to a higher level league. "Alex had offers from 5 teams" said Pecos League Commisioner Andrew Dunn. 3 of the teams were in the American Association, 1 team in Frontier League and the San Angelo Colts. San Angelo has a stable staff and a history of taking players from the Pecos League (Gorman Romero, Eddie Brown) and a quality coaching staff in Doc Edwards/Bobby Brown. Brown managed Las Cruces in 2010 and is constantly looking for upgrades to the San Angelo team, Doc Edwards has a legency as a manager 2nd to none in independent baseball and will provide a great opportunity for Alex to progess back into affliated ball. The Pecos League is now fielding calls on a daily basis from higher budget independent teams.

The Las Cruces Vaqueros got their 2nd victory of the 2011 season both in walk off fashion against the White Sands Pupfish. Steven "Caveman" Lemmon was brought into the 9th inning to try and hold a 8-8 tie. The Vaqueros scored in the bottom of the 9th to win the game, Andy Watson started for Las Cruces pitching 5 innings allowing 6 runs. The two teams will play the final game of the series Saturday Night in Las Cruces at 7:00 PM

The Las Cruces defeated the White Sands Pupfish 10-9 in 10 innings in a back and forth game at Apodoca Park. The Pupfish fought hard but fell short in extra innings. Raphael Anzola was the winning pitcher for the Vaqueros pitching the 10th inning. Herbert Lada lead the way for the Vaqueros with 3 runs and 3 stolen bases. The Fish nets are up in the desert and the White Sands Pupfish report to Alamogordo for Spring Training May 4, 2011. Alamogordo"s Griggs Park in the center location of the Pecos League, despite being isloated in the middle of the New Mexico Desert, the Pupfish have the best travel schedule in the league with fewest nights away from home. The Pupfish ballpark will be the most unique ballpark in the Pecos League with Fish Nets on both foul lines 100 feet off of the foul line and 40 feet high. These nets will be in play. The Pupfish are lead by manager Keith Essary who managed the Coastal Kingfish in 2009. Essary will be looking to silence critics that he can"t win. Keith is bringing in an exciting team that he thinks will do well in altitude. The fans in Alamogordo can"t wait for Spring Training to get start, opposing pitchers will wish they never saw Griggs Park with 30-50 mph constant winds blowing out to left field and 4600 feet altitude could cause for some high scoring games.
