ALAMOGORDO -- When the Pupfish open their season Tuesday with Alamogordo Public Schools Day, thatll be only the first of numerous special events planned for White Sands during the season.

Alamogordo assistant city manager Matt McNeile said the first thing the fans will notice when they come into the Aquarium is the press box and concession area is now painted in Pupfish colors. Pupfish logos are painted on the side of the buildings, and, in addition to the misters already in the dugouts and seating areas, team management has added a 10x10 inflatable misting station by concession stands, where fans can cool off while waiting for their food ands drink.

And that food and drink is going to have additions this year as well.

McNeile said theyre hoping for several new concessionaires this year, with local barbecue restaurant Cant Stop Smokin expected to have a booth for several if not all the Pupfish home games.

"So were excited about that," McNeile said.

Theyve added two two five-gallon tumblers "of whatever frozen beverage we want to put in there," to the beer and soft drinks already sold at the stadium, giving adults an added cool choice as well as youngsters, as the tumblers can sever frozen lemonade or margaritas.

A Wednesday drink special also sounds like it will appeal to several generations, depending on what its filled with.

"Because were playing in the Aquarium, were going to have a fishbowl drink, which is an 18-ounce, plastic fishbowl," McNeile said. "Well have nerds at the bottom and itll be a cosmopolitan drink with gummy fish floating around in it."

White Sands also has a number of special days planned in addition to the opener.

Tuesday, all students will be admitted for $2 each, and organizers are expecting 1,500-2,000 students to cheer on the 'Fish on opening day.

Other nights include a mariachi night; Christmas in July, which, in conjunction with Toys for Tots, could be a 2-for-1 game; Rotary Night, in which the areas three Rotary Clubs will be honored; another 80s night, which was popular in 2012; and a "Bring your dog to the game" Sunday special, in which all dogs who bring theirb owners to the park will get half price tickets for those owners.

In addition to all that, theres also a new 10x10 baseball inflatable over the Pupfish dugout, with pyrotechnics on either side so when the teams are introduced and after White Sands home runs, fireworks will go off in celebration.

"Its going to be an exciting season," McNeile said.
