10/21/2012-The City of Alamogordo will host Spring Training for four of the Pecos League Teams.
The Carlsbad Bats, Pecos Bills and Roswell Invaders will join the White Sands Pupfish for Spring Training in Alamogordo.
The Roswell Invaders were forced to leave Joe Bauman Park for Spring Training as part of their lease reduction. Hotels have always been a problem in Roswell for the players and the league. In the 2012 season the Invaders lost six home games when their host hotel broke their contract and increased the rate in the middle of the season. Roswell has the highest hotel rates in the state of New Mexico and this can be a huge burden for players who are asked to stay a week. Roswell has some of the best fans in the Pecos League who have made the voyage to Alamogordo more than once to see their Invaders.
Carlsbad Bats will likely be on the road again in 2013. The Bats will open the season in Alamgordo and thus conveniently hold Spring Training there.
Alamogordo has three fields and will allow the teams to practice at night. Teams will have rotating practice schedules. Each team will scrimmage the other teams.
There are several hotels offer great rates to the players. Each team may also play a game against the El Paso Diablos from the American Association in Spring Training.
Teams provide housing to players once the final roster is released the day before the season. Spring Training lasts a week and generates hotel rooms for cities that host Spring Training. Teams can bring as many as 40 players into Spring Training which means hotel rooms for players that do not have assigned housing.
