9/28/2016-Former White Sands Pupfish pitcher Chris Smith has been called up to the Major Leagues. He will finish the season with the Toronto Blue Jays who are battling for the American League Wild Card.
Smith's contract has been purchased from AAA Buffalo.
Chris Smith spent most of the 2016 season at double-A before earning a promotion to triple-A in late August. In 47 total relief appearances, the 28-year-old posted a 1.93 ERA with 81 strikeouts against 22 walks in 60.2 innings this year.
Chris Smith pitched 32 innings for the Pupfish in 2011 going 3-0 with a 1.41 ERA.
He later pitched in the Frontier League and New York Yankees organization before signing with the Toronto Blue Jays Organization in 2015.
Smith is the 2nd Pecos League player to get called up to a Major League Roster joining Jon Edwards.
