A seven-run explosion in the sixth inning lifted the White Sands Pupfish (26-37) to an 11-4 win in seven innings over the Santa Fe Fuego at Fort Marcy Park on Saturday.
The White Sands Pupfish scored in the sixth on a solo home run by Zac Johnson, a two-run single by Aaron Olivas, a two-run single by Eric Kalbfliesh, and a two-run home run by Joe Borowski.
Graylin Derke racked up three RBIs on four hits for the White Sands Pupfish. He homered in the fifth inning, doubled in the sixth inning, and singled in the first and seventh innings.
Matt Haskins racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Santa Fe Fuego (16-46). He singled in the second inning and homered in the fourth inning.
Taylor Elman improved to 2-3 on the year by picking up the win for the White Sands Pupfish. He allowed four runs over seven innings. He struck out five, walked one and surrendered nine hits.
Nick Minot ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked four, struck out seven, and allowed five runs.
The White Sands Pupfish hammered the Santa Fe Fuego pitching as six hitters had a field day, combining for 12 hits, 11 RBIs and nine runs scored.
